The Nickel Triple is a scary defensive formation that will give your opponent's nightmares if you run it correctly. When using this defense, make sure auto-flip is turned off in your coaching settings. You can purchase these Playbooks from the Auction House. If you're short on coins, Ezmut offers cheap Madden 24 coins for purchase.

Cover 1 LB Blitz (Basic Setup)

Setup:

  1. 1. Universally blitz all your linebackers (right on the D-Pad + down on the right stick)
  2. Press cover (Keep pressing Y/triangle + down on the left stick until your linebacker comes down
    to the line of scrimmage.
  3. (Recommended) Shade coverage over the top
  4. (Optional) Put the safety in the deep blue zone into man to man coverage on the running back
  5. User control the LB on the left and hold down LT/L2 before and right after the snap. Then drop into coverage

Overview: If you set this play up correctly and your opponent doesn't block extra guys, the MLB on the right should shoot right through the offensive line completely untouched for an easy sack

Cover 3 Sky/Cover 3 Cloud/Cover 6

Setup:

  1. Universally blitz all your linebackers (right on the D-Pad + down on the right stick)
  2. (Optional) Press cover (Keep pressing Y/triangle + down on the left stick until your linebacker comes down to the line of scrimmage.
  3. (Optional) Put the safety in the deep blue zone into man to man coverage on the running back
  4. User control the LB on the left, bring him down to the line of scrimmage if he isn't already (see video for positioning) and hold down LT/L2 before and right after the snap. Then drop into coverage

Overview: This is the zone version of the play 1 above. You can use this with any zone you'd like but keep in mind if your opponent is blocking extra people, it will not work as shown.

Any defense that rushes only 4

Setup:

  1. Make the setup look exactly the same as the previous blitzes but drop into a max coverage

Overview: Once your opponent starts realizing how quickly the pressure will get in, he will have to start blocking a running back or tight end on every play. When he does this, we will have 7 or 8 guys in coverage against his 4 or fewer receivers. That is exactly what we want.

Cover 1 LB Blitz (Against running back blocking)

Setup:

  1. Same as the basic setup except now put your safety that is in the deep blue zone on a blitz and move him up right into the gap between the center and right guard (see video for exact positioning) and hold down L2/LT before and slightly after the snap then pull off into coverage.

Overview: Even when your opponent blocks an extra running back, this should still get the same pressure. The running back will get confused and not block the blitzing linebacker if you execute it right.

Nickel Blitz 1

Setup:

  1. (Optional) Press cover
  2. (Optional) Shade coverage over the top
  3. QB Contain
  4. Adjust your defensive coverage how you'd like

Overview: Once your opponent really starts worrying about the linebacker shooting through the B-gap on the right, we want to start sending pressure from the slot cornerback.

Nickel Blitz 2/Nickel Blitz 3

Setup:

  1. (Optional) Press cover
  2. QB Contain
  3. Adjust your defensive coverage how you'd like

Overview: This is the zone version of the previous play. It's a good idea to mix up man and zone to keep the offense guessing.

Tampa 2 (Inverted Cover 3)

Setup:

  1. Use the SS Nickel or FS Nickel package before your pick your defensive play
  2. Put your safety on the left into an outside third left (Y/triangle + left on the left stick)
  3. Put your safety on the right into an outside third right (Y/triangle + left on the right stick)
  4. Put your MLB on the left into a middle third deep blue zone

Overview: The inverted cover 3 is a really good defense to confuse your opponent. Your opponent will think it is a Cover 2 but traditional cover 2 beaters won't work. Only call this if you have practiced with it. You can accidentally hot route your safeties into some crazy zones if you forget that the zone options are different when using the SS Nickel or FS Nickel packages.
